Problem
The plaza paving system at 300 S. Riverside was aged and deteriorated. In addition, the plaza was leaking water onto the Union Station train tracks below.
Solution
- Removed the topping slab and replaced the old built-up roofing system with a buried American Hydrotech waterproofing system
- Put in a new rustic terrazzo topping slab
- Installed about 200 feet of a Migutan expansion joint system
- Rebuilt all existing planter boxes and faced with terrazzo
- Installed a wheelchair ramp and automatic glass door at the north plaza entrance for handicap accessibility
- Installed granite pavement and waterproofing at the south plaza entrance
- All structural repair and plumbing work was done at night to accommodate Union Station trains and security
