Alex Zera

Chairman

Alex has been with Zera Construction since his father started the company in 1957, starting as a laborer during summers and then as job superintendent and project manager following his graduation from St. Joseph’s College in 1963.

Taking the reigns from his father, Alex became president of Zera Construction in 1976 and successfully changed the direction of the organization from that of a concrete flat work contractor to a structural concrete restoration firm, with one of the largest and most experienced work forces in the industry today. Alex has personally overseen the development of the concrete restoration industry and technology, and is frequently called upon as an expert witness for structural engineers involved in court cases.

The most challenging project Alex experienced was restoring 200,000 SQFT of concrete walkways at U.S. Cellular Park, performed through two extremely bad Chicago winters. The project was completed 14 years ago and there hasn't been a single callback — a testament to the Zera workforce and commitment to quality. Of all his accomplishments, Alex takes the greatest pride in how his sons, Tim and Chris, have embraced the company and continued its dedication to excellence. A father could not ask for more.

Alex now serves Zera Construction on special projects, particularly concrete restoration work outside of Chicago, such as The Reach luxury resort in Key West, Florida. Zera Construction loves to travel, and so does Alex.
